Type C Cable
Type-C is the latest version of the cable standard. But unlike the rest, Type-C might be good enough to stick around. The Type-C connector is immediately recognizable, because unlike the older Type-A, it has an oval shape a rectangle with its corners smoothed into a curve. It’s completely symmetrical, so it’s impossible to insert incorrectly.
The Type-C cables are incredibly convenient and useful in a world where Type-C is increasingly becoming a standard for both charging and transferring data for some of the best laptops, and best tablets on the market. Most Type-C cables are built on the second-generation USB 3.1 data-transfer standard, which can theoretically deliver data at speeds of up to 10Gbps twice as fast as USB 3.0 and first-gen USB 3.1, which both top out at 5Gbps. The key is to get devices that say “USB 3.1 Rev 2,” “USB 3.1 Gen 2,” “SuperSpeed USB 10Gbps,” or “SuperSpeed+” to get support for the faster spec. Unlike its predecessors, the USB Type-C connector/cable includes 24 pins with up to 18 wires and a smart connector in the form of a chip/paddleboard using E-Marker technology.
