In this article, Alistair Lockhart, Director of The Turkish Property Agents, takes us through why Fethiye is so popular with expats.
Where is Fethiye?
Fethiye is on the Aegean Coast of Turkey, just across from Rhodes. It’s an easy flight away from London and a popular destination for Brits in their 40s or 50s with children, or those approaching retirement and looking to slow down. Fethiye is really easy to get to from Dalaman Airport, and transfer times are about 30 minutes.
Fethiye is well-connected with the main cities and resorts of the south coast, such as Marmaris, Bodrum and Antalya, which is a major tourist destination.
What attractions are near Fethiye?
Fethiye has some of the most wonderful scenery in all Turkey. Dense forests, beautiful mountains and stunning mountain villages are just a short drive away. Many villas and apartments have gorgeous views from the balcony or terrace.
Nearby places of interest include the small coastal town of Hisarönü, the mountain village of Köyceğiz and the nearby ghost town of Kayakoy.
There is a spectacular choice of beaches.
Kumluca is one of Fethiye’s most popular beaches with nice clear water and a wide sandy shoreline. Calis beach is a popular choice for expats, as it’s only five minutes drive from Fethiye town centre. One of the most photographed places on the Med has to be Oludeniz beach, which is just a short drive from Fethiye.
How much is property for sale in Fethiye?
Alistair Lockhart, Director of The Turkish Property Agents comments:
“Although there has been a slight hiccup in the market because of the pandemic, at a macro level the property market in Fethiye is experiencing steady growth with prices on the up. Apartments start from about £40,000 for a studio/one bed, and 2 bedroom apartments start from around £60,000. If you’re looking for a more substantial duplex apartment or need 3 bedrooms, on a decent development with facilities you’d be looking at around the £100k mark.”
As the foreign property market becomes increasingly popular there are many prospective buyers who would like to purchase properties on the Aegean Coast of Turkey. This includes families who are planning on working from home, so international schools and good broadband speeds are increasingly important.
“For families or those wanting more space, there is a good selection of villas for sale in and around Fethiye,” says Alistair Lockhart. “You can pick up a modest 3 bedroom villa from around £120,000, with prices rising to £500,000 for high-spec, 5 bedroom off-plan villas which can be designed to your taste.
“One of the most popular architectural styles is the grand-looking, symmetrical palladium style villas. They look like mini White Houses with amazing kerb appeal. A 4 bedroom, 4 bathroom villa for sale in areas like Ovacik or Hisaronu will be around £300,000.”
