What is SEO? A Deep Dive into search engine optimisation

In this brief article, we will do a deep dive into SEO. What is SEO: The SEO Evolution (From Black Hat to White Hat). For those of you who don’t know, SEO used to be just a term for spam. But black hat and white hat SEO are not the same as they used to be. Today, white hat is being used more, and it is a very natural SEO practice.

Before I explain what SEO is, let me give you a short rundown on how it came to be. In the beginning, search engines used to just crawl web pages, index them, and determine their ranking. Back then, if a page was not indexed, it was usually blacklisted in the search results, and nobody wanted to have that effect on their website.

So companies had to develop tools that could crawl the web and index pages. One tool was a simple list of sitemaps. Sitemaps are basically a graphical representation of your web site. This graphical representation tells the search engines what each page is about. If a page is missing any sitemap, the search engines will disregard that page. However, if the page has a good set of sitemaps, the search engines will still use the sitemap to determine ranking and relevance.

So, how does a person optimize a site?

At first, it sounded like the same thing as what SEO was. Then, someone mentioned off-page optimization. What is off-page SEO? It is the process of improving your site’s on-page SEO, such as keyword relevancy and title analysis. So now we know what the audit part is, let’s dive into the off-page part!

What is an SEO Audit?

To get the most out of your off-page SEO efforts, you need to hire an SEO firm to perform an audit on your site. When you hire a firm, they will understand what your off-page SEO efforts look like, and they will perform a deep dive on the site. What this means is that the firm will search for relevant keywords, and they will conduct an on-page audit of the site. This audit can take many forms, but in general, it involves things like checking for missing sitemaps, testing internal linking structure, and so forth.

This is a vital step, because the on-page audit gives the search engine optimization practitioner (you!) a clear picture of how your site ranks for each of the relevant keywords that are important to you. It shows you where your ranking is right now, and where you want it to be. Additionally, it will allow you to quickly prioritize which parts of your site need work, and what you can do to improve them. For example, if you know that you’re rank for “attempts”, but you only rank for “subtotal”, then you know that you need to make some changes to your site.
