How Was Carlos Santana Music Career?
Carlos Santana, a songwriter, and guitarist have won several Grammys, Latin Grammys, Billboard Music Awards, and too many other music awards throughout his career so far.
He popularized a Latin-fusion sound that can best be described as a mixture of rock, salsa, and jazz in the late 1960s and 1970s with his band Santana.
But it was in 1966 that Santana formed his first band, known as the Santana Blues Band, and Santana began incorporating a variety of influences from various genres into his work, including the psychedelic soul acts such as Sly and the Family Stone and Jimi Hendrix, British rock bands like the Rolling Stones and the Beatles, jazz artists like the Miles Davis and John Coltrane, and Latin artists like Tito Puente and Mongo Santamaría.
All of these disparate influences blended into what eventually formed the sound of Santana, who, under its new shortened name, released their debut album in 1969 on Columbia Records.
After several personnel changes that steered the band towards a more hard rock sound, Santana was booked at the now-legendary Woodstock Festival, which, along with various recordings of the festival – including an award-winning documentary known simply as Woodstock – contributed significantly to the group’s early popularity and continues to enjoy music fans of the 60s and today.
The following year, Santana released the band’s breakthrough album, Abraxas, and in addition to Santana’s work as a solo artist, the band released a staggering 25 studio albums from 1969 to 2019.
Although these solo albums spanned his seven studio albums, Santana chose to release most of the recordings with the band of the same name.
After decades of continuing to work in his wheelhouse that combined rock, jazz, and psychedelia, his popularity revived significantly in the late 1990s, with the hugely successful 1999 album Supernatural and the United States.
His 15 million copies alone and his 30 million albums worldwide. This album earned him his No. 1 in 10 countries and his eight Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year.
The album’s biggest hit, however, was Rock’s collaboration with an entirely different band, Matchbox 20, from his group. 1999’s “Smooth” was a successful collaboration between the band Matchbox 20 and Santana and is still widely aired today.
Since the success of “Smooth,” Santana has effortlessly taken his place as rock music’s elder, regularly listed on lists of the greatest guitarists of all time.
In 2009, he appeared in the season finale of American He’s Idol with such legendary groups as KISS and Queen. Then, in 2014, he released his first album Corazon in his native Spanish.
Real Estate Of Carlos Santana
Carlos Santana has shown a preference for recently built homes in recent years. He reportedly moved into his gorgeous contemporary-style Las Vegas home just a few blocks away from another four-bedroom home he purchased for $3.5 million in 2010.
Reportedly he spent $6 million and was putting the latter’s home up for sale when he bought it. The home was equipped with a variety of amenities including the latest climate control, security, comfort technology, home cinema, and game room.
The house is located in a very upscale Las Vegas community inside Bear’s Best Golf Club, and the $6 million he spent on the house in 2013 is the highest-priced apartment offered per square foot in recent years. It was also his fifth-highest home purchase in Las Vegas at the time.
He is also allegedly connected to his two-building complex in San Rafael, California. The complex is just a 20-minute drive from his former home in San Francisco. Carlos owns some impressive properties in Hawaii.
In March 2012, he was listing his $7.5 million home near the Ritz Kapalua in Maui. It looks like he finally received his $4.7 million.
In May 2019, Carlos paid $2.7 million for a luxury home on Kauai. A year later, he paid $8 million for another house on Kauai.
Business And Personal Life
While Santana has focused primarily on music throughout his career, he has been involved in at least one venture.
With Chef Roberto Santibañez he opened his chain of Mexican restaurants, with several locations in the Southwest and Southeastern United States. It is called “Maria Maria” after one of the most famous songs by Carlos Santana.
A naturalized American citizen since 1965, he spent most of his life married to Deborah Santana. On October 19, 2007, after 34 years of marriage, she filed for divorce, citing “irreconcilable differences.”
They had three children together named Salvador (who is also a professional musician), Stella, and Angelica. In December 2010, he married Lenny Kravitz drummer Cindy Blackman.
